The new cable systems being deployed are 10G cables enabled

This growth in the number of users globally did have a major impact on growth of technology  speeds in the core telecom backbone.  A decade back the telecom technology was limited to SDH, and speeds like SFP+ Plus 10G cables was the only capacity needed by carriers for their core backbone. Those days the number of internet users were much lesser even an enterprise would only need speeds from an E1 to STM-1 for internet or event for their private networks. So a small backbone was a direct result of the need those days. The 10G cables systems also laid during the phase supported these speeds only.
Then as the internet usage increased from both retail & enterprise perspective there came a phase where in technology moved to DWDM and we could have speeds up to 10G cables in the backbone. The newly deployed cable systems in that phase also supported nx10G speeds. Even some enterprise demands for private network went as high as 10G. The advance in technology helped the telecom carriers in meeting the ever growing capacity demands, Riser Cat6A reduced the overall costs, improved the pricing, and took a step towards further growth foreseen in the internet world today. The new cable systems being deployed are 10G cables enabled, & upgrades of existing cable systems are also being done to these speed levels. Telstra, keeping a futuristic & forward looking outlook, upgraded the RNAL cable system and a segment of AAG cable system to 40G in last 2 years even before the demand really kicked in. Many new routes are being explored for upgrades to these speeds to meet the growth across intra-Asia, trans-pacific & Europe to Asia routes.
